Child Advocates of Silicon Valleys’ 14th Annual Golf Classic raised more than $150,000 to benefit foster children in our CASA program. More than 100 golfers, sponsors and dinner patrons participated in the tournament at Los Altos Golf and Country Club on Aug. 26th. Monies generated from the event will be used to serve more than 100 foster children in the Santa Clara County dependency system. During the past 14 years, the event has raised $3 million for our CASA program.
During the evening program, James Otieno was honored with the Walter “Skip” Shaw Inspiration Award for his philanthropic work in the community. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate generosity of spirit and commitment to the community.
“Child Advocates thanks James for his tremendous support of our agency,” said Frederick J. Ferrer, CEO of Child Advocates. “He is always generous with his time, passionate in his approach and embraces Child Advocates’ vision that every foster child deserves to have a positive view of the future and the opportunity to become a productive, healthy adult. James is truly an inspiration to us all.”
“I want to thank you for this honor,” said James. “Skip was an inspiration to me. Because of Child Advocates, there are a lot of young people who will hopefully be successful in life.”
After a successful career at Hewlett Packard Company managing Mergers and Acquisitions, Compensation, Benefits, and Human Resources, James shifted his energy and talents to assist nonprofits, particularly agencies that focused on children in need.
James joined Child Advocates’ Board of Directors in 2007. During his nine years of service, James served three years as Board Chair. He also Chaired the Golf Classic committee for two years. James continues to support Child Advocates as an Ambassador and as a member of the Human Resources Committee.
