Child Advocates of Silicon Valleys’ 13th Annual Golf Classic raised more than $160,000 to benefit foster children in our CASA program. A record 118 golfers participated in the Golf Classic at Los Altos Golf and Country Club on Aug. 27th. Monies generated from the event will be used to recruit, train and support CASAs to work one-on-one with foster children in the Santa Clara County dependency system. During the past 13 years, the event has raised more than $2,500,000 for foster children.
During the evening program, Los Altos Hills resident Jeff Richardson was honored with the Walter “Skip” Shaw Inspiration Award for his philanthropic work in the community. The Walter “Skip” Shaw Inspiration Award, named for the man who created the Golf Classic and who gave selflessly to Child Advocates, was created to recognize those like him who demonstrate generosity of spirit and commitment to the community.
Thirteen years ago, Jeff stepped in to help Skip Shaw and Bill Hannemann launch Child Advocates’ 1st Annual Golf Classic to raise money to help foster children in our community. As he worked with Skip and Bill, Jeff’s interest in philanthropy and giving back to local causes like Child Advocates’ was awakened. Thirteen years later, Jeff continues to help lead the Golf Classic.
Along the way, Jeff served three years on Child Advocates’ Board of Directors and his wife Christy was a CASA.
“We know what a difference a CASA can make in not only a foster child’s life, but often an entire family’s life,” said Jeff. “These children are in the system through no fault of their own. They need role models and mentors. CASAs provide that support and speak up for their interests in dependency court hearings.”
“Child Advocates of Silicon Valley thanks Jeff for his work on our board, his selfless effort on the Golf Committee and his ongoing support as a donor,” said karen Scussel, executive director of Child Advocates. “Jeff is always generous with his time, passionate in his approach and embraces Child Advocates’ vision that every foster child deserves to have a positive view of the future and the opportunity to become a productive, healthy adult. Jeff is truly an inspiration to us all.”
“Jeff is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and it’s been an honor to work on the golf tournament with him all these years,” said Mitch Juricich, golf auctioneer and emcee.
“I love playing golf and working on the tournament is a fun way for me to give back to this great organization,” said Jeff.
